Notes
Exactly a year after the release of German Funk Fieber Vol. 1, which introduced this mysterious
German funk virus into the world, the fever rolls on unabated.
On German Funk Fieber Vol. 2 meet the funkiest moments of all time classic "Krauty Schlager Wonders" such as Joy
Fleming, Manfred Krug or Kati Kovacs with the orchestrated big band funk from maestro James Last,
Les Humphries or Fredy Brock. Malcolm's Locks "Get Up Stand Up", an afro funk cover version of Bob Marley's classic hit, produced
by Peter Herbolzheimer, remains a rare and worldwide sought-after gem appearing on CD for the first
time. Lead singer Malcolm Magaron was previously a singer with Les Humphries, then later a member
of Germany's most successful disco project Boney M. Also on the most wanted lists of leading rare
groove DJs is the Peter Hauke (Supermax) produced afro funk album from "The Cosmic Sound
Orchestra" which was only ever released in Germany.
The East German rock bands Lift and Panta Rhei hit a socially critical tone, especially Lift's "Wenn"
which is, by today's standards, a particularly captivating and groovy timepiece reflecting the abolition
of the former Democratic Republic of Germany.
Ingfried Hoffmann, better known as a composer of several childrens' television series ("Robbi, Tobbi
und das Fliewatüüt", "Hallo Spencer"), plies us with his soul cut "Memphis Black", a very alternative
cover version of George Clinton's classic "Testify". Another awesome and until now completely
unknown jazz-funk instrumental version of "Sunny" is on offer by the Jochen Brauer Sextett. Edo
Zanki, who nowadays collaborates with the "Söhne Mannheims", performs under the alias "Don
Anderson" and impressively demonstrates that he is the "Godfather of German Soul".
We are also treated to a previously unpublished funk classic from the German film music legend Peter
Thomas ("Raumpatrouille Orion") along with titles from the jazz studio musicians Siegfried Schwab,
Eric Thöner, Roland Kovac and Jürgen Franke.
All in all, 13 of these 18 tracks appear on CD for the very first time and none have appeared on
compilations before!
